"I'm Not Okay": Mental Health at Work is Still a Crisis

building wall

Wellness programs, mental health initiatives... we hear all the right things, but how many are actually feeling better? A new report from Calm paints a worrying picture: 69% of employees say their mental health is either the same or worse than last year. It's time for real change.

What People Are Going Through:

  • Overwhelmed and Anxious: A massive 81% of people are dealing with constant stress and anxiety. This isn't the occasional bad day – this feels relentless.

  • Depression is Real:  Over half (61%) are struggling with feeling down, depressed, or trapped. This saps your energy for everything, work included.

  • No Rest for the Weary: 68% can't get good sleep because their minds won't switch off. Feeling exhausted only makes everything feel worse.

What's Adding Fuel to the Fire?

  • Tech Overload: Being constantly connected (which nearly 60% of people are) messes with everyone’s heads. The breakneck pace of new tech and AI can feel scary and destabilizing.

  • Bad Bosses = Bad Mental Health: Managers have a huge influence. Sadly, only 38% make work feel less stressful. That needs to change.

  • Gen Z: Hit Hard, Fighting Back: Younger colleagues are battling it the most, yet they're the ones boldly demanding better mental health support from their workplaces.

What Needs to Happen – Not Just Talk, Action:

Calm's message is clear: existing programs aren't enough. To make a real difference:

  • Prevention is Key: Make mental health resources easily available to stop small struggles from becoming major problems.

  • Break the Stigma: Talking about mental health needs to feel as natural as discussing a physical injury. People won't use the help they have if they feel shame.

  • Train Managers to be More Than Bosses:  Give managers the tools to understand how they make or break their team's well-being.

The Bottom Line: This is about People, Not Productivity

People are not robots. It's time workplaces valued their emotional well-being as much as the output. Ignoring this crisis has a terrible, very human cost.
